Reached the coastal village of Diveagar.
Famous for its coconut and supari (betel-nut) orchards. Diveghar,or Divya Ghar, is also well known for its long and isolated beach. But the best reason to visit Diveghar is for its unique gold idol of Ganpati, also called the Sone-ka-Ganpati. Locals claim the idol consists of 11 to 12 kg of pure gold and other precious stones and it well may be. The story goes that it was mysteriously unearthed in a diamond-filled treasure chest about 1,000 years ago, but you can expect to hear conflicting versions of the story.
To check it out for yourself, drive to the spot bypassing Fulora Resort, along the sea with the road rising higher to take you to the edge of a cliff. There’s the beach sand and sea on one side and village greenery on the other, it’s enthralling and just what could get you going in the morning.
Further down the same road is Dighi Beach, site of the infamous RDX landings which ended up in the bombs that tore Mumbai apart on March 12, 1993.
We stayed back at Anand Yatri Niwas over the weekend and had loads of fun there.
Played football on the beach and drank awla sharbat.
