The 15-year stranglehold of Laloo and Rabri over Bihar comes to an end and with that not only Bihar but the whole country can heave a sigh of relief. Hail the people of Bihar who deposed Laloo and his goons. This is democracy at its best!!!
This reminds me of the opening sequel to Shakespeare's play - "The Taming of the Shrew". Before the play starts, we are introduced to a poor character - Christopher Sly - who is picked from the roadside in an unconscious state by a very rich landlord. The landlord wants to play a prank on Sly. He takes him to his house and tells everyone around him to make Sly feel like the lord of the house when Sly regains his consciousness. The landlord himself decides to act as a servant to Sly.
So when Sly awakes from his deep slumber, he finds himself in a room resplendent with paintings, the fragrance of perfume in the air, surrounded by attendants and the landlord in the guise of a servant. He is then told that he is not a derelict, but their master. After protesting weakly, he is ready to accept their version of him and seems to completely forget his prior identity. He soon gets around to snapping his fingers and commanding the landlord, who is in the guise of a servant, to serve and entertain him.
The landlord and his retinue are dumbstruck at how fast he assumes his new role as their superior. The prank just went just too far for their comfort. Sly does not seem to care, he enjoys his new found sense of identity, and has a merry time by commanding a troupe of performers to put on a play for his amusement, thus kicking off the comedy "The Taming of the Shrew" for the audience to watch. Shakespeare fails to tell us what happened to Sly when the play ends, but we can very well imagine him being show the door out and dumped in the streets.
Drawing parallels to Laloo, it does not take a genius to see that Laloo was affected by the "Sly Syndrome" after the masses in Bihar elected him to the post of a Chief Minister in 1990. In our times, not all Slys get punished, but Laloo for a change has got what he deserved for his narcissism.
As Prakash Jha puts it lets all hope that the new government takes strong steps to revive Bihar and make Indians all over feel proud of the state of Bihar!!
